Aadya Misra is a Partner at Spice Route Legal, where she co-heads what is widely regarded as India’s largest data practice. Recognised as a ‘Rising Star’ in the privacy and data protection space, Aadya is especially known for her deep expertise in advising financial sector clients on complex, high-stakes data challenges.
Aadya has a robust practice advising banks, NBFCs, payment players, fintech innovators, and other financial institutions on the management, transfer, and protection of sensitive financial data. She regularly acts on multimillion-dollar outsourcing, technology licensing, and data-sharing arrangements, helping financial services clients navigate layered compliance frameworks and mitigate data-related risks.
She has also represented clients in several high-profile investigations and disputes involving financial sector data, including market-defining matters concerning data breaches and the misuse of customer information – such as a landmark dispute involving one of the world’s largest chargeback fraud management service providers and its Indian affiliates.
She has been widely recognised for her expertise in the field by leading publications across the globe, such as Asialaw and the Indian Business Law Journal. She has also been recognised as a ‘Nex Gen Partner’ by the Legal 500. Aadya is certified by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) as a privacy professional (CIPP/A) and is also recognised for her expertise across the globe by leading publications, including by OneTrust and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

- Advised one of UK’s largest fintech companies on various regulatory queries relating to the transfer, storage, and use of financial sector data.
- Advised a leading American financial services company on the data protection and localisation requirements for structuring and launching its point-of-sale machines and software in India.
- Advised one of Canada’s top five banks on multiple data privacy issues, including assistance with transfer of financial information to India, and subsequent storage and localisation requirement.
